So it’s the beginning of a new school year already! Inset days loom where we all prepare our tales of travel and relaxation for our colleagues. Mix in some frazzled bleary-eyed teachers and some dusty rooms full of huge cardboard boxes and the anxiety of the new school year starts to become a little overwhelming.
The pre-holiday mania of the football world cup seems miles away, and the Christmas holidays seem very, very far off in the distance – so what do we need to help us all breathe and steel ourselves for the classes arming themselves for the battle of September?… we need a SONG!!! And luckily, SingSongAlong have just the song for you and your children.
NEW BEGINNINGS is one of my personal favourites, and classes at my old school used it from year 1 right up to year 6. On the choruses I often got the boys to sing the echo line and got everyone to shake hands with each other on the ‘let’s make a deal’ line, but I suggest you get your children to come up with their own actions to make it more fun for them. Hope you like it – and share it with colleagues, friends, parents, children, heads, TV producers, charitable benefactors or out of work celebrities…
There have been a few developments at home for the SingSongAlong team. Our superstar singer Bracken Burns has just finished a critically acclaimed run in Canada in the lead role of Legally Blonde – the musical. Not only is it considered one of the toughest lead roles in musical theatre, but she was nominated for a Betty Mitchell award for BEST ACTRESS and it has led to a number of auditions for both Broadway and the West End, so we will keep you posted when we are allowed to let you know the news. Also her film production company Blahzay Creative is moving from strength to strength and now have an office all of their own for all your video editing needs!!
Following the recent success of his high school bands in West London’s battle of the bands finals at the end of last year, Ian Kellett has recently joined a new (adult) band on drums (having hung up his guitar and bass for the time being) with the fantastic artist Leila Moss - check out her awesome new album ‘My Heart Is Safe In Your Mouth’, out in November on Bella Union. He also managed to avoid being blown off the Devon cliffs by hurricane Ernesto this Summer, and I look forward to getting some new songs finished off with him this term.
Having spent a very enjoyable week working with Kent Music on an Orchestra One week earlier this Summer, and spent some lovely time in Scotland, France, Devon and a few other parts of the UK, I am now looking forward to sharing some new videos with you this term! So, if you are teaching the TUDORS, or your school has chosen FRENCH as their modern foreign language, or if you need help with learning about GERMS or if you teach EYFS and are doing a topic on COLOURS then you’re in luck!!! As ever, please let us know if you have any more topics that you’d like a new song for – and if your school or academy wants their own bespoke song just for you, then get in touch!
Lots of love, and happy singing – Andy and the SSA team.
